eHumanities is the online extension of the Legion of Christ College of Humanities.
Here at our seminary, we believe that we have a great humanities program, deeply rooted in a person-centered vision of culture. Through eHumanities, we hope to share this richness beyond our physical campus.
Humanities
Humanities explore the human heart through the great works of art: stories, paintings, music, films, novels, and poems. They reveal the deepest longings of the human heart, awaken our understanding, shape our desires, stir our feelings, and invite us to become who we are meant to be.

Humanities explore the human heart through the great works of art: stories, paintings, music, films, novels, and poems. They reveal the deepest longings of the human heart, awaken our understanding, shape our desires, stir our feelings, and invite us to become who we are meant to be.
What Are These Humanities Courses About?
We all long for something more
We all long to be loved, to find meaning, to discover who we truly are, and to become the person we were made to be. Even when we cannot describe these yearnings, they remain deep within us.
That is where every one of our courses begins: with a deep longing inside the human heart.
We then turn to a great work of art (by this we mean not only paintings, but also novels, movies, songs, and more) that gives voice to one of these universal longings. Great works of art do more than entertain us. They awaken something that is already deep within us.
A story type
Let's consider a type of story that is built around one of these longings. It is called the Going Home Story. Now let us look at a work of art that expresses this longing. Let’s take for example the classic 1939 movie Wizard of OZ.
On the surface, it is the story of a young girl who is whisked away by a tornado and spends the rest of the movie trying to return to Kansas. But beneath the surface lies a question every human heart is continually asking: How can I get home? Where is home?
As we journey through the movie, we discover that home is more than a place. It is companionship. It is hope. Along the way, we discover something even more important—we discover a bit of ourselves.
Each of our courses explores a different type of story: the Call of the Hero Story, the Love Story, the Accepting Who I Truly Am Story, the Search for a Meaningful Life Story, and many others.
These story types are universal. They are found in every culture and every age because they are already there in every human heart. That is why people from very different backgrounds can watch the same film, hear the same song, or stand before the same painting and find themselves deeply moved and maybe wanting to talk about it.
Small groups
This also makes these courses ideal for small groups. They naturally lead to conversations that are both meaningful and profound—conversations that help us understand ourselves, understand one another, and grow together.
Our goal in eHumanities is not simply to help you and your friends appreciate great works of art (which we do!). We want to equip you with a new way of seeing and engaging. Once you begin to recognize these patterns, you will see them everywhere—in stories, in music, in history, and even in your own life.
Ripple effect
We believe the humanities are not a luxury. They are essential. They remind us what it means to be human. They awaken the deepest desires of the heart. They help us become wiser, more compassionate, and more fully alive.
Isn’t this too good to keep just to yourself! These courses therefore also aim to help you to develop the skill of sharing your insights not only with the members of your group, but also with others around you, enriching your family, your workplace and your community.
And perhaps, one conversation, one small group, one transformed heart at a time, through a ripple effect, you might just help save civilization. The awakened heart cannot keep it to itself.
